On September 7, 2004, the St. Bakhita Health Training Institute (HTI) was officially registered under the registration number REG/HAS/066. The Sumbawanga Catholic Diocese owns this faith-based non-profit organization. The Institute is located in Namanyere town, Nkasi District, Tanzania, between latitude 658 and 817 and longitude 3130.
The Vision statement of the Institute is to become a center for academic excellence in health training, research, health care and consultancy in the country. The main purpose of the Institute is to complement Government efforts health care provision by training health professionals competent to work both in rural and urban health facilities.
The administration of St. Bakhita Health Training Institute consists of six departments: accounts, social welfare services, procurement and supply, security services, and secretariat. Clinical Medicine, Clinical Laboratory, Pharmacy, Nursing and Community Health, and Library and Computer are among the other departments.
The act which established the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education Training (NACTVET) requires an Institution in order to be fully accredited should have adequate financial resources to run its programs to achieve the required professional standards. Since November 2014, NACTVET gave a full accreditation certificate to allow the Institute to conducttraining from certificates up to diploma levels. The St. Bakhita Health Training Institute provide training of Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Diplomain Medical Laboratory Science, Diploma in Nursing, Diploma in Phamaceutical Science Certificate in Medical Laboratory Science, and Certificate in Nursing. Other awards include Certificate in Computer Science. Also, Assistant laboratory sciences and Information, communication technology under VETA.

To provide quality education and produce qualified and competent health workers, to enrich students with high and scientific training that will be easy to integrate with the working environment, to communicate highly scientific events and introduction of new method for health care and provision of quality services to the society.
